   The red poppy is an annual herbaceous plant with a straight stem, covered with big hairs. The red poppy flowers are single with 2 big sepals and 4 big bright red petals. The part used in phytotherapy: the petals.

   The poppy was brought in Europe 4,000 years BC. In the year 1200 BC the Greek used the poppy capsule's properties to calm pains. The poppy is cultivated massively in the Orient (especially China and Afghanistan) starting from the 17th century when the trend of smoking opium is launched.

   Note that nowadays poppy cultures are used in 2 precise purposes:

red_poppy    - a medicinal one - the morphine made from poppy is an important adjuvant in medicine.
